Linear light fixtures often give the same amount of light as three or four smaller pendants in just one large fixture. Designers choose linear fixtures to go over islands, long tables, and even large living rooms. Check out these tips to properly hang a linear fixture.
- It is recommended that the length of the fixture is no more than 2/3 the length of the surface below. This ensures that proportionality remains.
- For an 8’ ceiling, allow 30”-36” between the bottom of the light fixture to the top of the surface below it.
- Hang the fixture an extra 3” higher for each additional foot of ceiling height.
- Leave at least 6” from the edge of the fixture to the edge of the table.
Tip: For extra long surfaces, consider hanging two smaller linear fixtures next to each other.
