Kitchen tables are often where the most memories in a house are made. They come in all shapes, sizes and styles for any home’s needs, as do the lighting fixtures that go above them. Here are some tips on how to choose the best light fixture for your kitchen table.
- For a round table, the diameter of the fixture should be 1/2 to 2/3 the width of the surface of the table.
- For a rectangular table, choose a fixture that is one foot smaller than the table’s narrowest width.
- In a room with 8-foot ceilings, the bottom of the fixture should be approximately 33” above the surface of the table: add 3 inches for every foot above 8ft.
- The bottom of the fixture should be at least 66” from the floor of the room.
Tip: Choose a light with a translucent or frosted panel to soften the lighting and reduce direct light on the eyes.
