Design Partner Feature - Kara Hebert Interiors

Florida native Kara Hebert has been dreaming about interior design since she was a little girl eyeing Southern Living home decorating magazines in the checkout line at the grocery store. Her heart for designing comes from a long line of creative family members and, of course, the inspiration of those magazines. She has fallen in love with all that encompasses a home - from the feeling of being there to the memories made inside of it.

Other than the years she spent studying at Louisiana State University, Kara has spent her whole life in South Florida. Her beach-town upbringing and summers spent traveling to the Bahamas both have inspired her coastal style of design that she implements in most homes today. Located in Jupiter, FL, Kara Hebert Interiors is committed to making homes the best version of the people in them.

At the beginning of her interior design career, she mainly focused on renovations. Taking a home that is sad, dull, and needs help and making it new and full of life is something she enjoys doing most. “I LOVE a good before and after,” Kara said. Renovations allow her creativity to flourish by making a vision come to life. However, her projects are now mostly new builds, which she loves just as much. After the very first conversations with the clients, all the way to installation day, Kara works with their needs in mind. Her approach has an emphasis on practicality, and she makes sure that nothing is too precious that it can’t be enjoyed. She has clients of all ages and backgrounds, a majority of them being families, and she does her best to implement all of their wants and needs into their new home.

“Being able to start from scratch allows me to get my whole heart into the project,” said Kara. “I build relationships with my clients, and they basically become family, which is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.”

Although her beach-town location has pigeonholed her into a coastal style niche, she makes sure that a home looks more like the client's style than her own. She loves color as well as layering textures and patterns to create a masterpiece. She partners up with a lot of local vendors to feature unique art pieces throughout the home. Because she is a homebody herself, she tries to make every space as comfortable and livable as possible. Every single area that Kara designs are different - you can see her hand in them, but the ultimate goal is for the space to be the best version of the people living in it. When a client is unsure about what they want, Kara reminds them that the best results are 15% outside of their circle of safety. They can be involved in the process as little or as much as they want to, but trusting her to see their vision and make it come to life is a necessity. The relationships formed at Kara Hebert Interiors between the staff and the clients are what gets her going every day.

Kara Hebert Interiors : Jupiter Colony I

The project we are featuring from Kara Hebert Interiors is a recent new build in Jupiter’s inlet colony. The town is surrounded by water, and the streets are sandwiched between the intracoastal and the Atlantic. Kara described the community as a charming hodgepodge - a dreamboat of a community. The client is a young family with three teenage boys who wanted a comfortable home to finish raising their family. It was Kara’s mission to accommodate them as much as possible. She used all upholstery and performance fabric throughout the home because it looks nice but is not too precious that it can’t be lived on. The style is very transitional, and the color scheme is monochromatic neutrals, but she wanted a little bit more color throughout to add excitement. She makes it her mission to use as many local pieces and artwork throughout her homes to support small businesses in the community - this project specifically included some unique light fixtures as well as artwork hanging on the walls. She mixed colors and textures to give this Florida house a coastal feel.

All of the lighting fixtures that Kara uses in this home can be found in our featured collection at the bottom of the page.

One of Kara's favorite things to incorporate in every home she designs is local artwork from artists and vendors in the area. The beaded light fixtures in the photos both above and below are from local small businesses in Jupiter, FL.

The most unique space in the house is this hallway nook in the master bedroom. In terms of space, size, and location, this area was going to be a challenge. Kara found a beautiful local piece of art and put one of Icon Ltg.'s picture lights above it and now it stands out in the way that she had dreamt of it to.
